Michael Tubbs, former mayor of Stockton, CA

In 2016, Michael Tubbs was elected Mayor of Stockton at the age of 26. He was the city’s first African-American Mayor, and the youngest Mayor of any major city in American history. As Mayor, Tubbs was lauded for his leadership and innovation. He raised over $20 million dollars to create the Stockton Scholars, a universal scholarship and mentorship program for Stockton students. Additionally, he piloted the first mayor-led guaranteed income pilot in the country.

Mr. Tubbs is the Special Advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom for Economic Mobility; the Founder of Mayors for a Guaranteed Income; and the Founder of End Poverty in California (EPIC).

He is currently running for California Lieutenant Governor in the 2026 elections.

Since 1953, we have been working to elect Democrats and support policies consistent with the ideals of the Democratic party. We meet the last Monday of every month for programs and discussions around policy priorities and candidates in local, state and national elections. Our meetings are social, and also provide an opportunity for learning and activism.

Joining the Democratic Club of Claremont puts you in the room to vote on key policy priorities, candidate endorsements and events to support Democrat policies and candidates. We are an all volunteer organization, so 100% of your dues and donations provide direct support to the club.
